Foster’s Market is a gourmet food market and cafe, focusing on scratch made soups, salads, casseroles, sandwiches and more. Everything is made in house, we even roast the turkey for our sandwiches. It is nearly impossible to describe Foster’s with one set definition. We are a restaurant, coffee bar, specialty food store and catering company. We also make gift baskets and sell products on our online store. It seems a bit crazy, but it is really the combination of all these that makes Foster’s a successful business. The awesome food, the superior service, the staff, the fun and the unexpected are what makes the Foster’s experience a unique and rewarding one.

The History… Sara Foster and her husband, Peter Sellers moved to Durham, North Carolina and opened Foster’s Market in 1990, introducing great seasonal prepared foods to eat in or take out, specialty grocery items, locally roasted coffee and select wines.  Foster’s immediately became a wonderful gathering spot for Durham residents and Duke University students, professors and employees. In order to serve the increasing demand, additional space and food selections were added, but one thing has remained constant: our devotion to complete customer satisfaction. Our guiding principles have always been to serve great tasting food, offer superior customer service, have fun and earn a living. The market/cafe was such a success that Sara opened a second Foster’s Market location in 1998 in Chapel Hill, that location closed after 15 years. Over the years Foster’s Market has won many awards from “Small Business of the Year” to “Best Lunch Spot in the Triangle.” Sara also received the award for “2010 Restaurateur of the Year” from the North Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association.

To experience Foster’s Market you really have to visit. Here is one of my favorite stories about Foster’s one of our customers, Ernie Padron, wrote.
